Being 0100101110101101.ORG, or "Show Me Your PC and I'll Show You Mine"

by badweatherfriend

From a band of Web pirates whose past projects have included staging a hoax involving a made-up artist, ripping off the Pope, other net.artists like www.jodi.org and hell.com (who almost sued them), and stealing and altering the Web's first net.art gallery, comes "life_sharing," a performance piece, if you will, in which the artists make their entire hard drive available on the Internet. Finally, the Internet's proudest plaigarists are giving something back to the Web-make that "everything". Including some stuff that isn't theirs to give (like, oh, their operating system and program files). The cat burglars are leaving their doors and windows wide open and putting out the welcome mats.

"Read email from our mothers," they say. "Look what we bought with our MasterCards."

"Why?" we ask.

"Because it's art," they say.

"Oh. Cool," we say, "I don't get it."

What they mean is that in today's technological world where our computers are extensions of ourselves (we keep our work, photos, recipes, books, and favorite songs on them-hell, I kept my boyfriend on mine for a while), to let someone into your hard drive is to let them into your heart, your mind, and maybe even your bank account. In other words, you can BE 0100101110101101.ORG. Just be careful. It may be a trap.
