The meme originated from a 2008 Getty Images photograph taken at the site of a fatal shooting, depicting a black cat crossing the street in front of two cops.
Ten years later, in 2018, an unknown user created a photoshopped version of the image, transforming the cat into a bizarre, bipedal creature with a comically angry posture.
After gaining traction among Russian users, it achieved worldwide popularity as a viral image macro, commonly referred to as “Cursed Cat,” “ЪУЪ,” or “Angry as Fuk.”
