We mixed existing works of Net Art that we had copied with other materials from the Net. After downloading all the elements of a page, we would tinker with the source code, adding and removing bits of code and checking the result in the browser, often relying on conflicting code and syntax errors. The irony is that most of the original websites have since disappeared, making our ‘pirated’ versions the only ones still in existence.

The Yahoo! logo and Warhol’s Campbell’s animated GIF were sent to us by MTAA—M. River and T. Whid—via an email titled ‘A Fun Examination of the Commercialization of Cyberspace.’ We embedded the logo as a background image, causing the HTML page to automatically tile it endlessly, filling the entire screen at any given resolution and aspect ratio, giving it a ‘Warholian’ vibe. This concept would later form the foundation of the ‘New Free’ series (2000-01).
