AI has now vacuumed up that early web, along with everything else. Using archives, oral histories, and old articles, we reconstructed websites by early Net Art pioneers and fed them back into AI to generate new versions.
The result is both familiar and counterfeit, bringing together two radically different forms of appropriation: the informal copying of the early web and the industrial-scale extraction of contemporary AI. A remix of a remix of a dataset.
