A print featuring the programming code of our reenactment of Chris Burden’s Shoot in Second Life. It’s printed on a 24ft (7,3m) fanfold continuous paper.
The piece was originally performed live at Artists Space for Performa ‘07 in New York. The printout includes two pieces of code: “aim.bvh” and “shoot.bvh”, they program the movements of our avatars, the one aiming the gun – Eva’s -, and the one getting hit by the bullet – Franco’s.
Despite being computer-readable data, the code uses a lot of words that are understandable by anybody, like “hip”, “abdomen”, “neck”, “head”, “lShldr”, “lForeArm”, “lHand”, “Xrotation”, “Zrotation”, “Yrotation” etc. so you get an idea of what’s going on.
The code can be used by anybody to execute the exact same performance in Second Life or any other metaverse that allows the import of animations.
Commissioned by Performa, to benefit the launch of their online archive platform.
