A live event where people were paid to stream their sleep. The sleepers were selected through an open call and streamed from their bedrooms in New York, Milan and Buenos Aires. The event, which lasted 8 hours, was visible live on Instagram and in an installation at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome.
While the act of streaming and watching someone sleep may seem like a paradoxical denial of art or entertainment, a real anti-spectacle, it draws inspiration from the real-life phenomenon of sleep streaming, where people try to make money by streaming while they sleep.
The term “sleep mode” refers to a condition typical of our electronic devices in which you are never completely disconnected, but only in a state of reduced operation. Nothing is ever completely “off” and there is never a real moment of rest.
